The Cars were not only one
of the most successful bands of the 70's and
80's, but also helped
shape and define what became one of the most popular music movements
of the decade: New Wave. They used their masterful electronic
technique to earn a number of platinum albums and top singles, which
dubbed them one of the most well known bands of our time.
Ric Ocasek and Benjamin Orr began working together musically in
the
early 1970's as a folk duo called Milkweed. While recording their
first album, they were introduced to Greg Hawkes, a keyboardist, who
acted as a studio musician. When the Milkweed project failed, Ocasek
and Orr founded Cap'n Swing with guitarist
Elliott Easton, although
the band disbanded in 1975. Finally, in 1976, Ocasek and Orr formed a
new band with Hawkes, Easton and David Robinson of Modern Lovers. They
called themselves the Cars. |
