| In the
early '80s, Long Island's Stray Cats almost single-handedly
renewed interest in rockabilly. The Cats were an unprecedented
success, thanks to Brian Setzer's skilled fretwork and the band's
retro sound and image, which stood out against MTV's rotation of
new-wave hair bands. Although the band was short-lived, Setzer
emerged in the '90s as the lynchpin of yet another revivalist
movement--swing--with the hugely successful Brian Setzer
Orchestra. |
